MPA Framework-summary of the second phase public consultation outcomes released
A summary of the outcomes of the second phase of consultation on opportunities to strengthen the National Framework for Governments’ Support of the Major Performing Arts Sector (MPA Framework) has been released.
The second phase of consultation was managed by the Australia Council on behalf of the Meeting of Cultural Ministers (MCM) and took place in October and November 2018. It included 15 consultation forums held across all Australian jurisdictions and resulted in the submission of 370 formal stakeholder responses.
The report summarises the themes and views expressed during the consultation process which will inform advice provided to Ministers by MCM Working Group officials. Its public release is a welcome milestone towards resolution.
Agree themes that emerged from the consultations include:
strengthening diversity and
a more co-ordinated approach to touring
prioritising Australian work
a new Enhancement Fund supported by new investment
greater transparency around funding and public reporting on organisations' performance
clearer and effective entry/exit guidelines
Any changes to the Framework require unanimous agreement across all State and the Federal governments. A Working Group for the Meeting of Cultural Ministers will discuss the changes after the 18 May election with the aim to settle the Framework at the MCM in September.
